Lost your Honda car remote programming instructions? Or perhaps you’ve just replaced your key fob battery and need to resync it? Programming your Honda car remote yourself is a straightforward process that can save you time and money compared to dealership services. This guide provides simple, step-by-step instructions to get your Honda remote working again in minutes.
Step-by-Step Guide to Programming Your Honda Remote
Before you begin, ensure you have all the remotes you wish to program for your vehicle readily available. Also, double-check that all doors and the rear hatch or trunk are completely closed. You’ll only use one remote initially to enter programming mode, but all remotes must be programmed within the same session. Each step must be performed within 5 seconds of the previous one.
-
Get into your Honda and close all doors and the trunk tightly.
-
Insert your key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position (position “II” on the ignition bezel) so that the dashboard lights illuminate. Within 5 seconds of turning the key to “ON”, press the “Lock” button on one of your remotes for approximately one second, and then release it.
-
Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position (position “I” on the ignition bezel). The dashboard lights should turn off.
-
Repeat steps 2 and 3 three more times, for a total of four times. Remember, each step must be completed within 5 seconds of the step before it.
-
On the fourth turn of the key to the “ON” position, press the “Lock” button on one of your remotes. You should hear the door locks cycle, making a “clunk” sound. Note that the locks will not actually lock or unlock at this point; they will only make a noise indicating the system has entered programming mode. Do not turn the key off at this stage.
-
Within 5 seconds of entering programming mode, and then within 5 seconds of each other, press the “Lock” button on each remote you are programming for about a second and release. This entire step needs to be completed within 10 seconds. Each time a remote button is pressed, the door locks should cycle again, confirming successful signal reception. You can program up to 3 remotes in total.
-
Finally, turn the ignition completely off and remove the key from the ignition. Open the car door and step out, then close the door.
Your Honda car remotes should now be programmed and fully functional. Test each remote to ensure they are working correctly, including the trunk/hatch release button, which may require holding it down for a few seconds to activate.
This simple procedure should have your Honda car remote programmed and ready to use. If you encounter any issues, double-check each step and ensure you are within the time limits specified.
