2018 Infiniti Q50: Refreshed Design, Powertrain Options, and Pricing Unveiled

INFINITI has announced the pricing and updates for the new 2018 Q50 sedan, showcasing significant enhancements for the model year. The 2018 Q50 receives a refreshed exterior and interior, offering greater visual differentiation across its trim levels. With twelve distinct models available, customers can choose from four powertrain options and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations across all trims. The new pricing structure also introduces specially curated LUXE and SPORT models at comparable price points, providing greater customer choice.

The 2018 Q50 introduces a streamlined global grade naming structure: PURE, LUXE, SPORT, and RED SPORT 400. This simplified structure extends to option packages and naming conventions for 2018. Adding to the visual appeal, a new exterior color, Mocha Almond, joins the available palette.

The exterior redesign of the 2018 Q50 maintains its sleek silhouette and athletic stance while creating a more pronounced distinction between model grades, particularly the performance-oriented RED SPORT 400. Notably, the Q50 3.0t SPORT and Q50 RED SPORT 400 models feature a more aggressively styled front bumper and wider, lower air intakes, enhancing their visual impact. Drawing inspiration from INFINITI’s “zero lift” aerodynamic philosophy, the updated Q50 incorporates a more prominent airfoil at the base of the front bumper, contributing to aerodynamic efficiency.

Inside the cabin, the 2018 Q50 elevates the sense of artistry within its high-tech environment, creating a more comfortable and connected space for occupants. The new grade structure allows INFINITI designers to imbue each model with a unique interior character, catering to different preferences and styles.

Interior enhancements include distinctive stitching on premium, soft-touch materials throughout the instrument panel and a sport-inspired leather shift knob, adding tactile refinement. Continuing the focus on occupant well-being, the 2018 Q50 features INFINITI’s signature spinal support seats, designed to ensure lasting comfort. A newly designed steering wheel incorporates molded thumb rests for improved ergonomics. Furthermore, the INFINITI InTouch™ Services system seamlessly integrates the vehicle and driver through intuitive technology.

A comprehensive suite of innovative driver assistance technologies is available in the 2018 Q50, designed to enhance driver confidence and control. These available technologies include Direct Adaptive Steering, Active Lane Control, Intelligent Cruise Control, Distance Control Assist, Backup Collision Intervention, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Forward Emergency Braking, and Predictive Forward Collision Warning.

The 2018 Q50 continues to deliver a dynamic driving experience with a range of advanced powertrain options. Highlighting the engine lineup is the VR-series 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine, recognized on the prestigious 2017 Ward’s 10 Best Engines list. This engine is offered in two performance levels: 400 horsepower for the RED SPORT 400 models and 300 horsepower for other 3.0t models.

Complementing the twin-turbo V6 is a responsive 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 208 horsepower. Engineered for a balance of performance and fuel efficiency, this engine also incorporates an idle stop-start system to further enhance fuel economy.

For those seeking enhanced efficiency, the 2018 Q50 is also available with an advanced gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. This system utilizes INFINITI’s Direct Response Hybrid® technology with Intelligent Dual Clutch Control, delivering a net system output of 360 horsepower, combining robust acceleration with optimized fuel consumption.

All 2018 Q50 models are equipped with a refined 7-speed automatic transmission, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters are available for a more engaging driving experience. The INFINITI Drive Mode Selector, standard across all models, offers Snow, Eco, Standard, Sport, and Personal modes. This system, part of the INFINITI InTuition™ System, allows drivers to personalize vehicle settings for engine, suspension, and steering (when equipped with INFINITI Direct Adaptive Steering®).
